In fact, research reveals certain fundamental core traits that every ultra successful or wealthy person has in common – including chiropractors. But anyone can achieve these; it doesn’t matter where you came from, how much money your parents had, or what your present circumstances are. It doesn’t even matter what you consider “success” - for some it may be athletic achievement; for others, wealth; and I’ve proud to know many chiropractors that consider success working in a noble profession that helps and heals people.
In reality, there is nothing holding you back from achieving your dreams and becoming ultra successful, too, whether you’re a chiropractor, still in school to become a DC, or just motivated to make the most of your life.
This is the third blog of three in this series about the science of prosperity and habits of the mega successful. We encourage you to read part one and two as well!
Here are the rest of our 50 habits of prosperous and mega successful people (including chiropractors!):
Health, wellness, and happiness:
12. They remain relaxed.
Successful people stay calm, balanced, and keep a healthy perspective in their lives. This demeanor - not getting too high or too low - is so important once challenges, adversity, and stress come their way. As a chiropractor, your CAs, staff and patients will all be looking to you as their fearless leader, and that means being calm and clear headed enough to make smart decisions that are best for everyone.
13. They have energy and physical stamina.
This trait is usually forgotten, but successful people work long hours and expend incredible amounts of energy day after day for the long haul. So they take care of their health by exercising, eating right, and adopting healthy habits that keep their energy up.
14. They stop and smell the roses.
No matter how busy they are, successful people schedule time off to spend time with their families, see friends, exercise, unwind, and have fun.
15. They have fun!
Through all that hard work, discipline, and achievement, successful people always have fun. They embrace that it’s all about enjoying the journey, not the destination. If you’ve been to any of the chiropractic practice building sessions with Dr. Ward and his Innate Legacy team then you understand that there’s a lot of love and laughter in the room, even as we work hard!
16. Track and analyze their expenditures.
Financially successful people pay close attention to their financial picture. They track all of the income and expenses, whether it’s by inputting them into a spreadsheet, saving receipts, or using tracking software. This allows them to analyze their expenditures every month and reduce unnecessary or impulse purchases. Dr. Charles Ward always says, “If you can’t measure it, I don’t want to hear about it!” for good reason!
17. They live within their means.
Research shows that the “millionaire next door” rarely is flashy or shows off their wealth. In fact, they are intentionally understated, whether it’s their car, home, clothes or other expenditures. Instead of trying to “keep up with the Joneses” and impress people, they’re more interested in saving and reinvesting for the long term. A good way to think about this is to invest in the quality of your life – not how people will see and perceive you.
18. But they enjoy life.
Being smart with your money isn’t the same thing as being cheap or not having fun. In fact, wealthy people often spend on vacations, luxury items, and fun for their families. However, they always carefully plan and budget these recreational expenditures, not spend impulsively. In that way, they invest in experiences, relationships and memories.
19. Making moves for the long term.
People who live comfortably and amass wealth rarely are tempted by get-rich-quick schemes or chase shortcuts to success. They don’t buy and sell assets frequently or expect short-term gains – they buy quality investments and hold them, with the eye toward cashing in way in the future or at least based on market fluctuations. The best chiropractic practices always have an eye on the long game and achieving steady growth.
20. They invest young.
One of the consistent traits of people who are financially comfortable later in life is that they started investing young. Even in their 20’s or sometimes their teens, they understand the time value of money. By putting money into 401k’s, Roth IRA’s and the like when they’re young, they benefit from compounding returns and a windfall as they get closer to retirement.
21. They put savings on autopilot.
If you track the financial growth of most wealthy people, you’ll notice that they always put some money aside first for savings from every paycheck and deal. This is what they mean by “pay yourself first,” as it gives them a solid foundation to invest and grow before they ever touch the rest of the funds for paying bills, living expenses, etc.
22. They plan for rainy days.
Successful people may be optimistic and reach for the stars, but they definitely are pragmatic as well, planning and preparing for every eventuality. They keep a good amount of savings, make sure they are well insured and protected, and generally minimize liability in every aspect of their lives. Chiropractors should understand trends, cycles, and even seasonal nature of their business and plan accordingly.
23. They pay off bad debt.
Financially adept people understand the golden concepts of money - to invest to earn interest, but to pay off debt first so they’re not paying interest. In fact, successful people universally pay off credit cards, car loans, small installment loans, etc. and don’t carry personal debt on a month-to-month basis. While they often pay off their mortgages as well, they do, however, use “good” debt like business loans, etc. to leverage growth. Likewise, successful chiropractic practices make sure they are sound financially and carefully strategize, taking on debt to expand and grow but not just to get by.
In the community:
24. They are community leaders.
Successful people get involved to try to help society as a whole, not just themselves. They serve on Boards, advise, mentor, attend community meetings and planning sessions, vote, and even run for politics themselves as a way to serve. For chiropractors, this means a commitment to education, raising awareness about the benefits of natural chiropractic care, and helping to heal all people – not just patients.
25. They give.
People who achieve great things in life are huge givers, donating their time, energy, money and resources to charities and good causes, both in their local communities and our world. From Bill Gates to Warren Buffet to the Oprah, just about every notable accomplished person donates significant sums to causes they believe in. In fact, 70% of wealthy p
