What if, when you’re ready to hit the pillow each night, you graded yourself? But unlike school, where you could get B’s, C’s, and…(well, hopefully you didn’t get lower than C’s), this time you could only give yourself an A or an F?
Would most of your days end with an exemplary mark, or a failing grade?
It may sound excessively self-critical and a little harsh, but sometimes it may be healthy to look at our results through an all-or-nothing lens if it actually motivates you to act, and that could be the best way to get rid of your tendency to wallow in disappointment and self-judgment.
Taking action to avoid an F grade may just be the motivation you need to soar to new heights and feel great.
Here’s the good news – you can make a list of things that will automatically earn you an A, salvaging your day no matter how late you do them.
Everyone’s list will be different, but base it on your goals, both in business and life.
Stop and count your blessings and feel gratitude?
Tell the important people in your life that you love and appreciate them?
Congrats, you just got an A.
Learned something new?
Sought out new experiences and perspectives?
Got way out of your comfort zone?
You now get top marks.
Put extra effort into making sure your patients were well taken care of and felt great?
Do something special for your CAs and staff?
Plan and act smartly in a way that will grow your practice?
Try making a top ten list of things that are most important to you and make yourself a deal: no matter how bad your day was and how many times you made mistakes or fell short of your own expectations, you can turn any F day around just by doing three of those things, even if it’s late at night.
That way, any F can easily become an A, and you’ll be amazed how your mindset changes to one of positive action and empowerment, not negative judgment.
Try it for a week – an A or an F for the day – and let us know how you feel!
